Doctors & Staff

Dr. Steven Zeide
A Stamford resident and owner of Bull’s Head Pet Hospital since 1975, his primary veterinary interests are in internal and preventive medicine, ophthalmology and pain management.  Although he graduated from the Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in prehistoric times, majoring in dinosaurs, he continually updates his education, attending countless lectures and seminars.

Whether it’s participating in pet-facilitated therapy at human hospitals and nursing homes or visiting schoolchildren on career days, he loves to share his passion for animals with Fairfield County‘s young and young at heart. It’s doubly rewarding when the students come to Bull’s Head Pet Hospital to discover more. The learning tree has even branched out to his two sons from a more than 40-year marriage. One, a colleague, Dr. Nolan Zeide, and the other, an attorney with his MBA, who frequently consults for the practice.

Born and bred in Brooklyn, N.Y., “Dr. Steve” learned to be fiercely loyal to family, community, and work. When not out working, he is usually working out. His highest life priority is to his wife Dorothy, his one and only childhood sweetheart. What would a veterinarian be without pets of his own? His two dogs Sedona, a mixed breed rescue and Dover, a miniature Bull Terrier, along with Zoa, a beautiful longhaired cat presently rule the roost.

Dr. Nolan Zeide
Nolan Zeide, sometimes referred to as “Dr. Nolan,” was born and raised in Stamford, Connecticut. As a product of its school system, he was a graduate of Westhill High School. As the son of Dr. Steven Zeide, he has been surrounded by animals and veterinary medicine his entire life. As a matter of fact, as a child his favorite after-school activity was cleaning cages and helping the kennel staff.

The curiosity for science and general inquisitiveness ultimately led him to earn a degree in Veterinary Medicine from Purdue University in 2009 where he was presented the American Animal Hospital Association’s award of “Distinction in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery.” Upon graduation, he advanced his training for another year as a rotating Intern in Medicine and Surgery at the Animal Medical Center in Manhattan. His current interests within veterinary medicine are in internal medicine, nutrition, behavioral issues and soft-tissue surgery.

Although he has had the opportunity to have lived and traveled extensively inside and outside the United States, he is pleased to once again reside in Stamford, with his wife, Leah, a Greenwich elementary school teacher, their daughters, Aviva and  Elora, and a  rescue Catahoula Leopard Dog, Vader. Si`, he is fluent in Spanish.

Lisa, Hospital Administrator
Lisa is a tri-state gal through and through -- raised in New Jersey, working and living in New York City, and residing in Connecticut for over 29 years. Ever since she was young, Lisa has always loved being surrounded by pets including dogs, cats, fish, gerbils, birds and even a few chameleons along the way. Upon arriving in Connecticut, she brought her first cat to Dr. Steve, and remained a longtime, loyal client of BHPH ever since. He and Dr. Nolan have treated her entire “zoo” over the years. Lisa graduated from Smith College and went on to a career in advertising and public relations. After a change of career, she became a certified veterinary assistant and then manager of a well-known dog day care facility. Lisa has since joined BHPH and has found this to be an ideal job, combining her love of animals with all of her management, client relations and marketing skills. In her free time, Lisa enjoys spending time with family and friends, her two dogs -- Ariel and Hershey -- and her two cats -- Meeps and Pumpkin. She also enjoys working out, cooking, traveling and volunteering with dog and cat rescue organizations.

Sandi, Pet Groomer, Client Service Representative
Sandi Russo has been the pet stylist "groomer" here at Bull’s Head Pet Hospital since 2008. A couple of days per week you  may also her at the front desk as a Customer Service Representative. Born and raised in New York BHPH has become her home away from home. Sandi and her husband have one very spoiled dog that means the world to them. She has always had a love for animals and knew whatever job that she would have would involve pets in some way. During her career she has done everything from kennel & shelter work to aquatic & reptile care to now having the privilege to work in a veterinary hospital.

Otto, Technician
Otto is our head technician. He is the longest-tenured team member besides Dr. Steve. He has been working here since 1990. Otto started out in the kennel and quickly acquired an adept hand working with the pets. He has occupied nearly every position at BHPH, but his favorite (and current position) is as technician. Otto enjoys working directly with the pets; his favorite task is performing dental cleanings. He has been given the moniker “Otto the Dentist.”

Abner, Pet Lodging Attendant
In the fall of 2001 Abner came to the United States from Guatemala, full of dreams and looking for better opportunities for his family. Soon after arriving in the U.S., he started working at Bull’s Head Pet Hospital. Abner has always enjoyed providing loving, good care to the pets staying at BHPH in the kennel (obvious by the many pictures of Abner getting doggy kisses). Beyond his love for pets, he has three beautiful daughters and a small doggy named Deisy. Abner’s first dog, Brenda, was a rescue he adopted at about 10 years of age, and she lived until she was almost 16! Abner has truly enjoyed his first decade-plus at BHPH and looks forward to another decade of happiness!

Elmer, Pet Lodging Attendant
Elmer has worked at BHPH since 2011 in the pet-lodging section of the hospital. In his native Guatemala, he had several dogs working his farm, as well as a dog living in the house. He especially enjoys bathing and grooming dogs. He enjoys helping them feel good by making them clean.

Nina, Doctor Assistant & Client Service Representative
Nina is a native of Westport, Connecticut. She studied biology and psychology at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, during which time she completed research internships at the Saint Louis and the Beardsley Zoos in Bridgeport, CT. She has volunteered at animal shelters for many years and is truly happiest when surrounded by animals! She has a 12 year old Labrador and a 20 year old cat and is hoping to adopt another dog in the near future. At BHPH Nina works as both a doctor assistant and client service representative and she is becoming increasingly passionate about veterinary medicine. She hopes that this experience will be a platform which will eventually turn into a carreer as a veterinarian

Taylor, Technician Assistant
Taylor currently attends Norwalk Community College. She wears many hats while at BHPH. She spends much of her time assisting in the kennel but is also developing her skills as a Technician Assistant. Outside of the hospital she is a professional dog walker and pet caretaker. Taylor has always desired to work with animals and is happy to care for all of the pets that come into BHPH. At home, she is the proud owner of five dogs and five cats. Her future plans are to further her career in wildlife rescue and conservation.

Niko, Pet Lodging Attendant
Niko is recent addition to the completely revamped Pet Lodging “service” at BHPH. He is highly skilled at keeping our four legged guests safe and happy. He is often seen playing ball and teaching tricks to many of the pets while they are here in lodging. Niko is increasing his medical knowledge base as well by learning to identify any health issues an animal may be experiencing while in our care.
